Modex Automation specialized in the design and manufacture of control equipment for the standby diesel generator and process control industries. The company – originally based in Hayling Island, Hampshire, UK – became part of the Murphy group in 1997.

Some Modex products, including the popular Autostart and Keystart controls, are still manufactured under the Murphy brand. Information for these products appears in the Murphy catalogue under 'generator controls' (section 75). Archive information is also available for discontinued products.
